I: initial act or action, more spontaneous, me, the reaction/ response to the generalized other, 3 stage process [look at as pyramid from top to bottom] Impulsive, transitory behaviour: commonplace, mostly hidden, denied, and rationalized, those not caught go on to conventional lifestyles, secondary, planned, organized behaviour, affects lifestyle, life choices and associates, master status, hughes, ascribed or achieved status positions, master status. Involves only a small number of people: the status that comes to dominate in most, or all social situations, dominates all others. Influences other aspects of life such as social identity: becker, said the deviant label becomes the master status. Imposed upon you so others will identify you as that deviant master status before anything else.
