What is homophobia: a fear towards people in the lgbtq+ communities, negative feeling towards people in the lgbtq+ communities. What is queer activism: resistance against homophobia and other things that lgbtq+ people deal with, rights of gay and lesbian people, since then it has also been broader for marginalized gender expressions (trans, non binary etc. ) 1990"s gay community fought against medical institutions and the recogni- tion of aids in the gay community (origins of queer activism today: queer theory (challenges how our society categorizes people, and hierarchy"s between sexual identities and orientations) Video clip how we became gay : what examples of heterosexism and homophobia in the 1960"s were depicted in the video, explicit homophobic views, medicalized as illness. Hotels wouldn"t rent to males: discrimination against gay men. If you came out you would be discriminated in the workplace, and had consequences on jobs you could get.
