Often sees sex and gender as the same thing but gender is a social concept and sex is biological (see chapter one notes for further explanation) Sex dimorphism: belief that only two categories of gender exist (man and women) and that all people must be, and can be, put into one of these groups. Believe that sex and gender have to match - female matches with women, and male matches with man. These ideas are starting to change and society is turning away from dimorphism involving sex and gender. Some genders in various cultures hold special status.
