Brown and strauss both argued about structure: brown said that structure is about the relationships of people in the world, strauss was that structure was much deeper and looked at in the human mind. This is a period of separation from your regular society. 2nd phase liminality/communitas: period of anti-structure, you feel like you do not fit anywhere. Africa and they both start with this analysis and move away from it show us a beginning move away from structural analysis and levi strauss.
