• What’s different from the Sanchez families from the other families
o The three different household that he supports – these families
weren’t a secret they all knew about one another
o Social reproduction is about how we raise our kids

preferring one household over the other
• How each household privilege is on a higher scale then others
• Lupia has different behaviour then the other wives – she put on more clothes
when we would come over unlike his other wives

trunk has to come), he also built the house they are living in
• Not in a poor down town neighbor, almost in a suburb (auto construction to
start to build your own house but the city services has not reached them
constantly)
• Earning a living – full-time steady job; they are able to plan with their money
where other families
o We see people you have a little bit more ability to plan and think with
their money you don’t see that at all with the downtown families
• Culture of Poverty: these children don’t have to earn money for the family –
more focused on education and having these children who

Castro Family
• Although Isabel (wife) has more money as a family then all the families
combined, but she still have it hard because of the control the husband has
with the money
• Even though he was a peasant who came from nothing and now is a self
made millionaire but still money incorporates problems amongst one
another
• Time management = nothing gets done during the day (10am wake up)
• Globalization and consumption to confirm status – Christmas, Santa Clause,
etc. Very influenced by the United States (food, etc.)
• Nouveau riche – not old money, you never always had and grown up into
money
• Isabel does have an affair but with only lower class men – this kind of shows
that oh maybe she doesn’t have it all that bad with her rich husband
• Culture of Poverty – look at how she lets her kids treat her and she is
offended but lets them treat the help bad -
