ARKY 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Central Place Theory
Document Summary
Given a uniform landscape, settlement develops in a certain way. Right off the bat, give the case that if it was 100% settlements would settle in a very certain way. Surrounding those, are hexagon of smaller settlements, with the secondary centres in the middle of these hexagons. Using these, you can attempt how these sites all work in canon, and who has what importance. There is then a question of values of problems and limitations to modelling spacial relationships between sites. The fact that you have to correct for the uniform" landscape issues are actually behind how these sites pop up and relate to each other. All around in the rock faces there was rock art. They mapped it out, and found as much art as they could. They were able to date the art on the walls, reflecting changes in the social structure in the site with the times.
