They were documents of different types, conversions of the bible, documents written for the community, etc. They were very fragmentary, but they often just had little bits, with pieces missing. By the mid 1980"s, not all of them had been published. This lead to conspiracy theory emerging that because they were related to the bible, there was a theory that they were hiding something, that would rock the foundations of christianity and judaism. However, the differences between this version of the bible and these, were minor spelling and grammatical changes, no earth shattering issues. The scholars assigned to translate and publish them just simply didn"t. This is an issue in that people find a discovery, are given an assignment that is considered their until they publish it. Thus, it is fun to dig, but not so fun to publish results. Thus, you can"t publish this stuff, until the first scholar assigned to has published it.
