This followed closely on the heels of the seven years war. It had been very expensive for the british, and thus, they taxed the americans heavily. The proclamation of 1763 created indian territory, and closest off the interior, in theory, to settlement. In april 1775, a shooting war would erupt. From the american view, this was just gaining freedom. Things had been escalation for a while, and they were even organizing their own government when the shots were fired. Alan and arnold joint forced, took the fort while the garrison was asleep, and thus, had early successes that demonstrated british weakness. The believed that if they did this, the canadians would rise up and join them. They figured that they were yearning to be liberated from their oppressors. The americans attacked june 27th 1775, by general montgomery, and general arnold would come t quebec from a different direction. When they heard of this, they kinda panicked.
