On the handout he gave us there are some revisions and notes:
Chapter 18: Instrumental duet
1) It is difficult to draw a definitive line between vocal melody and instrumental melody.
However, instrumental melody includes:
a. A higher proportion of leaps (ARP, BC)
b. A broad compass including changes of register (cross voices are allowed)
c. A reliance on motivic repetition and sequence (repeated more than two times)
3) Structural framework:
d. Consonant intervals 5, 8, 1, 3, 6. Intervals requiring resolution 2, 4, 7, 9.
