A lot of the crime and violence rates have been linked to things like poverty, social alienation, and the like. Something that dons get covered in media and media response and police response to a lot of violence that we see, the people who are doing this are not neutral. It is to an overwhelming extent, young men. The moral panic around this talks about alienation. Katz and kimmel say that this is a showing of masculinity, and the way that masculinity, and hyper masculinity are cemented with violence. Imagery of violence in film stems from the 1940"s onwards. Violent crimes are overwhelmingly done by young men, and are increasing. However, it moves forward from subtle violence to full out gore. In canada, 88% of all arrests are men between 18-35, 99% all rape charges, 87% of aggravated assault, and 92% of robberies. Homicide rates between 1984 - 1994 more than tripled.
