BIOSECURITY:
A part of modern “Herd Health Management”
Definition: “a planned system to prevent introduction or transmission of communicable disease
by cross-contamination within a herd, flock, or population”
Why does Biosecurity Matter:
Protects investment of time, effort money and animals
Like “insurance” for animals
Protects others’ animals
ACCESS MANGAMENT:
1) Designate District Zones
Boundaries
Single access point
Restricted Access Zone: area of greatest risk where animals are hosed, essential
personnel and equipment only
Controlled Access Zone: buffer; first level of defense, less restricted access but still
limited to necessary people / movement
