The right kidney is only protected by the 12th rib (really exposed) but the let kidney is protected by the 11th and 12th rib. Renal fascia separates suprarenal gland from the kidney (important when you want to remove just the kidney) Renal fascia opens inferiorly into your pelvis (infecion can travel from kidney to your pelvis and down) Renal fascia anchors the kidney to surrounding structure. Perinephric fat/perirenal fat (peri around) surrounds ibrous capsule. In efect, the kidney is suspended by collagen ibers from the renal facia and is packed in a sot cushion of adipose issue. This prevents the holts and shocks of day-today existence from distrubing normal kidney funcion.
