AN SC312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Semen Collection
Document Summary
There is a post copulatory stage in the male. Need to manage it when doing semen collection or used for sires. Period after animal has ejaculated where they can"t be stimulated again. Must go through this to have another fertile event. If they have a -ve event during or after they will remember it. Male tries to mate and slips and falls (they won"t reproduce in that environment again) If they have a bad experience with an environment with a particular individual they won"t like being in that environment with that particular person. Sometimes they will imprint on a certain collector and will only produce when it"s that particular collector. The more the males are stimulated before ejaculation the better the ejaculate. Usually use a real steer for warm-up mounting. In both the male and female estradiol is the hormone that is interacting the hypothalamus.
