Mitochon turns food into atp and atp will power the tail for motility. Acrosome needs to be maintained because don"t want to release too early. Apical ridge is like a point that sticks up (mohawk style) If they are then they won"t be viable for very long. When metabolically active sperm are viable for only a few hours. Need to be exposed to the environments that will change them and allow them to become fertile. Don"t want them to react too early and loose those proteins. Triggers that breakdown the plasma membrane and release the enzymes. Only sperm that have been truly capacitated can go through this reaction. In litter animals they need the amount of sperm to be high but when looking at the ratio of sperm to oocyte they are similar to an animal that only produces 1 or 2 offspring at a time. Debris and viscosity might actually be a sign of infection (look into that)
