Document Summary
Dna makes rna (messenger rna, we also have trna) makes proteins. 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) chromatins (stay in territories, no tangling up) Chromatins are not allowed to leave the nucleus. Efficiently packaged dna into a small volume to fit into the nucleus of a cell and protect the dna structure and sequence. Packaging dna into chromatin allows for mitosis and meiosis, prevents chromosome breakage and controls gene expression and dna replication. Nucleolus makes ribosomal rna (made in nucleus) + brought in rproteins (made outside of the nucleus) ribosomes. Nuclear envelope made of 2 membranes and fluid filled space. The nuclear envelope surrounds the nucleus with a double membrane with multiple pores. Nuclear lamina serve as a connection between the nuclear envelope to the chromatin. It is composed of intermediate filaments and membrane associated proteins. Besides providing mechanical support, the nuclear lamina regulates important cellular events such as dna replication and cell division.
