Predation Models (Lotka and Volterra)

c= how many prey it takes to make a predator
dp=death rate of predators
Will =0 when Np= dp/cb (used to find isoclines of 0 population growth)

Prey will be scared by predators to areas of greater shelter even if that
means sacrificing resource density to do so
This also allows easier predator studying for us… we can look at where
the prey stay away from and assume the predators are there
Herbivory
Exclosure experiments
Usually wont eat then till death, but large eruptions in predator population
can cause huge intake of plants.
Theyre also selective, plants are high in carbon but low in nitrogen (which is
more dense in live leaves) so they will go after the alive stuff (low nutritional
value is a defence in itself)
Inefficiency- large handling time
