BIOL 208 (January 17, 2014) • Organisms prefer living at temperature at their optimal range so they have an upper hand in outperforming other competitor species. • These models are used to determine invasiveness of invasive species o Rather than getting rid of it, how do you prevent its establishment  If you know what kind of environment the foreign species thrive best in, you can take preventative measures to keep it from establishing itself. • Certain conditions will interact with another but we ignore it o Basic concept is on this approximation o Niches aren’t real/tangible  It is an abstract way to understand the link between physiology of an organisms and its environment • Energy is limited o Which is allocated to a few life needs  Reproduction  Maintenance  Growth  Activity o Si
