• Questions regarding comparison of tales
o How tales evolve throughout ages with respect to audience and presentation of
themes
o Only based on folktales/literary adaptations
o No questions on theory, but can enhance understanding of text; can bring up if
necessary
The False Grandmother/Goldflower and the Bear
• Discipline of children by fear – how they were taught

• Grimm was more family oriented
• Similarities between texts:
o Absence of adult
o Always by herself to deal with situation
o Presence of predator (wolf/bear/ogress) – non-human; tries to deceive her
o Cannibalism
o Except Perrault, Little Girl deceives predator and escapes
▪ Female characters are capable
o Pretends she has to relieve herself (usually tied to a rope to keep her from
escaping but does so anyways)

• Little girl is manipulative?
o Had gun as if she was ready to kill the wolf
o But what about grandmother? Did she send wolf to her on purpose?
