All of this is part of the issue of where women fit in in society. During the industrial revolution, there was a lot of change. Industrial revolution allowed women to escape the domestic sphere and have more freedom. The middle classes were the most populous social class. Some of the women in the middle classes wanted to work and wanted to be free.
