11/06/2015: spectacle of violence for control and question of torture and how it is represented, pg. Think and question the nature of torture. Torture is not about the extraction of truth-> rather it"s to display power. Emphasis on torture doesn"t have purpose and proving that people have power over others. They didn"t come to force the story out of me . Reduced to his most basic state a body, as a body : thin line between living and being alive (human and being a body) They came to my cell to show me the meaning of humanity -> Suffering is not noble and he is going to be a hero (not romantic)-> humanity in it"s most base sense want to live w/out pain and comfortably in our body: history pg. Barbarians: ahistorical (unable to progress and civilize)-> bringing these people into historical time.
