Hist 114 - lecture 13 media often uses images of women and children refugees to create an emotional response. Presenting a certain gender and age group. Less threatening image, innocence and vulnerability effort during wwii from british government to assist jewish refugees - kinder transport, brought in 10,000 jewish children from nazi germany to britain. Images of immigrant syrian children brought up this memory and connected it. Compassion was limited in part to immigrant children, and mothers relative invisibility of men as victims. Letting in terrorists letting these able bodies men to abuse the system and not work . Unspoken political narrative, 6 months to a year after being granted refugee status, men almost without exception established some economic support, and then brought over their families. The men often came over rst to establish a home before bringing their wives and children. Often these men are accused of leaving behind their families, running away from the army, lack of patriotism.
