withmaritimes,eachprovincewasfocusedonit’sgoals,littlesenseofsharedcommunity,each
societyhadevolvedinownways.
AtlanticprovincesseethemselveslinktoBritain,USA,WestIndies,nottoCentralCanada.
NovaScotia’seconomicpositionbegintodeclinein1860’s,strongsenseofidentity(90%)were
bornthere,norailway,noconnectionwithNewBrunswick
StrongsenseofidentityinNewBrunswick,economicdecline:timberdeclines,
PEIisveryisolated,fairlyprosperous,peopledon’townlandthough,theyrentit.Landquestion
hadplaguedlandsince1760’s.
NewfoundlandhadalotReligioustension,fishingwasdeclining.
Suggestedthatthe4linkup,wouldlinkthemtoexternalmarkets,removetariff,peoplebelievedit
wouldsolvesocialandeconomicproblems.
