Cancer is the leading cause of premature death in canada, and in 2008, cancer was the 7th most costly illness or injury in canada, accounting for . 4 billion in economic costs (3. 8 billion direct healthcare costs). An estimated 2 in 5 canadians will develop cancer in their lifetime, and an estimated 1 in 4 canadians will die from cancer.
