Document Summary

Fashion is a complicated business involving long/varied supply chains; from raw materials, textile manufacturing, clothing consumption, shipping, retail, use and ultimately the disposal of the garment. Fashion is what is new, evolving and cutting edge. The economic importance of the fashion industry and the need to preserve resources in order for it to continue, set against its inherent obsolescence and waste resulting from a desire for constant change. Sustainable/green fashion: part of the larger trend of a life cycle process where a product is created and produce with the consideration of its total lifespan (consumption, use, discard) and the impact that product has on the planet. Also tied to the concept of corporate social responsibility. Closed loop future: taking a garment back to its original bre form and then using it to create something new is seen as a way for rms to become more sustainable.
