Document Summary
Lecture 5: design factors in protective clothing & equipment. The study evaluated the relationship b/w helmet damage and head injuries in the car of hospitalized patients, which were helmeted bicyclists who su ered a head injury or damaged their helmet in a crash. The damage of the helmet was evaluated on a 5 point scale. Helmets are not always 100% e ective against head and brain injury. This lack of protection may be due to improper t, style, helmet failure, high energy impact. There was no data available to determine which of these mechanisms was most important. The study aimed to gain a better understanding of why some helmeted cyclists sustain head injuries. Injured cyclists who were admitted to the er. Detailed questionnaires were sent to all of the study subjects. Info on the injuries were also gathered from medical records. This data was used to construct contour plots of the head injuries.
