Document Summary
Has broadened over the past decade: from the strictly economic to the economic and political to now the economic, political and cultural. This reflect a shift from empiricist, to marxism, to feminism and post-modern philosophies and approaches. Normative models: what ought to be, rational economic operator, a perfect, uniform world. More-developed world: more stability and independence, may increase production when prices fall. Less developed world: tend not to be profit maximizers, grow food to live( subsistence) Normative model: what ought to be rather than what actually is, seeks what is rational or optimal according to criteria. What we are left with: agricultural activities located in series of rings around the central market, one zone for product, organization is function of market demand. Products that spoil are closer and the products that need a larger area are farther away. Economic rent: rent is a function of distance from market ( a big red curve)
