Subtypes of meningitis (>12 serotypes based on capsule carbohydrates) Coughs, sneezing, saliva up to 1 meter. Really heavy molecules, will be in air up to 1 meter then fall to the floor. Endotoxin in cell wall, triggers immune system and starts inflammatory response. Causes arteries to dilate & become leaky . Activates blood clotting disseminated intravascular coagulation (dic) Used for children <2 and immunosuppressed individuals. Based on proteins in the cell wall, not capsule! Pressure on brain due to inflamed meninges.
