Document Summary

Caribou in alberta is in the decline because they live in the forest which is drastically declining thru. In the north there"s a requirement to include traditional knowledge when dealing with management of wildlife. People watch the land and track what is happening in the environment around them. Do this because they care about the land and are interested in sustainability for future generations. Fn are very aware of the oscillations in caribou population. The replacement of caribou to the northern communities is at the millions of dollars per year. The northern governments are suggesting that fn are over hunting. But if they depend on the caribou for their livelihood then why would they over hunt. They have been hunting for generations so there would know how much to take. People are using substitutes because they are easier to find than the caribou. Everyone knows that mines and habitat disturbances are really disruptive to caribou and wildlife.
