NURS 106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Thyroid, Exocrine Gland, Anterior Pituitary
Document Summary
Target cells have receptors to bind with a specific hormone. Limited to adjacent cells c onnected by the same type of connexons. Limited to local area, where target cells have receptors. Limited to the cell that secretes the hormone. *pancreas is a part of the endo and exocrine system. Peptide hormones and catecholamines chains of specific amino acids from the hypothalamus, pituitary, pancreas, parathyroid, c-cells, gi, kidneys, thymus, heart. Steroid and thyroid hormones from cholesterol adrenal cortex, gonads, placental hormones. *fat-soluble hormones work for a longer period of time. One hormone must be present in adequate amounts for full exertion of another hormone"s. Example: estrogen and lh are both needed for oocyte production and ovulation, oxytocin and prolactin for milk production in females. Example: insulin and glucagon, calcitonin and parathyroid hormone. Dictator of the anterior pituitary gland/producer for the posterior pituitary gland. *oxytocin does not follow the negative feedback system. Pituitary gland located at the base of the brain.
