Rst line therapy : diuretics (unless the pt has signi cant renal disease) 70beats/min -70x70 = 4900ml -co = sv x hr. Not ejecting blood into the body - blood backs up into the lungs. Right side of diagram demonstrates systemic response to hypotension. Lack of contractility is the underlying cause of heart failure. Failure to compensate leads to drop in bp. Low co = congestive heart failure (chf) treatment: decrease cardiac workload / increase o2 supply. Try to vasodilate arteries (less work for the heart to get blood out : decrease after load) Most meds work on the basis of electrolyte concentrations. Calcium : calcium channel blockers in terms of treating vasoconstriction. Need to decrease load on cardiac muscle and increase contractility. Blocks of enzymes in sodium-potassium pump to block the transport of sodium out (keeping it in the cell)
