NURS301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Cohort Study, Evidence-Based Medicine, Randomized Controlled Trial
Document Summary
This hierarchy is in order of strength, if your question is about an intervention. Level 1: meta-analysis, systematic review of several randomized control trials. Level 2: at least one randomized control trial. When it is non ethical to expose someone to a risk factor or perform an experiment. Level 5: evidence from descriptive or qualitative studies. Level 6: evidence from a single descriptive or qualitative study. Level 7: evidence from the opinion of authorities or expert committee reports. Structure that researchers are using to aid in solving problems, answering questions or testing hypotheses. It involves a plan, a structure, and a strategy. Allows researcher to apply different levels of control so it can be suggested that it was the independent variable that influences the dependent variable and not something else. Elements of research design must match the question! Role of investigator: over see everything but should be removed from creating data with participants.
