Anger can stem from history of unfair treatment of aboriginals. Aboriginal values: sense of community, connection to land, follow your word. Imagine how it feels to be forced to live in a new land, being forced to speak another language, having what"s yours taken away. Loss of culture and identity continue to affect future generations of. Always work with your clients, not against them. Racism stems from lack of understanding or ignorance. White privilege is your history being part of the core curriculum and mine being taught as an elective. Racism can often exist in things that we find common and don"t notice. Residential schools: some schools can be good, sexual abuse, children shot due to overcrowding, starvation, children forced to do chores like cleaning. Aboriginal culture is being redefined, help patients explore their identity. Ptsd: ripped away from family, sent back at 18, only education is sewing, cleaning, fighting, substance abuse (coping mechanism)
