Document Summary

When we try to lose weight, we need to consider our bodies energy balance. To lose one pound there need to be a deficit of about 2700 3500 calories. To lose a pound per week i. e. in 7 days, then that means we have to create a deficit of 400 500 kcal per day by either: increasing physical activity, decreasing intake. For athletes losing weight can mean that they have a chance to be the optimal weight and enhance their performance. That optimal weight is determined by what sport they are in, the athlete themselves and the season (i. e. competition season vs. training season). Losing weight is one thing, losing fat mass is a whole other ball game. This needs to be done when the athlete is not in peak season. So, optimally during the off season or after composition season.
