Are at least 9 alpha subunits, 3 beta subunits. Are many versions of achr b/c many alpha and beta subunits and can come together in various patterns; looking at 2-3 of them (attrib to addiction) Can be presynaptic and postsynaptic in cns (enchances presynaptically) Postsynaptic at neuromuscular junctions (neuronal nicotinic r, b/c originally thought only in. Cns; ie found in lungs attrib to lung cancer) If postsynaptic, will quickly depolarize the cell and cause cellular excitation (neuromuscular)
