75 views3 pages

Document Summary

The rightness of an action depends on its relation to duty. Duty is rule that has the power to override other reasons. Focus is on what i do and why i do it. Start with our understanding of moral concepts (moral worth, duty, law, etc. ) and our intuitions about what is morality. Clarify these concepts and see what they tell us about the moral agent. Draw out the principle that determines (or ought to determine) the moral agent. 4. (use this principle to derive specific duties) Not about what is the case but about what must be the case. Will = part of us that is influenced by reason. Reason has to do with making discussion, and reason tells this part what to do. Practical : to think about what to do (deciding on the end) Reason and desire can make us act. Reason can tell us what to do outside of desire.
