Acting according to a law = doing what is necessary. Rational beings can act on principles or reasons (and not merely on feelings or inclinations) = can determine their will rationally. We can reason through what we do. We can decided what to do based on rational will. If reason is the only influence on the will. Rational will = lawful = universal (non-contradictory) What reasons tells me is :good is necessarily what i do. What reason tells me is good is not necessarily what i do. Objective principle (law) becomes a command, unlike the law of gravity. Prescribes actions as means to achieve an already given ened (something we already want) Prescribes actions as good or necessary no matter what (no matter what other ends we have) Ie: take medicia twice a day with meals for 14. if you want to be healthy follow this; if you do not care about being healthy you won"t take it.
