Document Summary

Primary function as a transport system: transport o2, co2, nutrients, water, hormones, metabolic waste. Heart lies in center of thorax, apex dips towards the left. Base of heart is at the top. 3 layers of heart: endocardium endothelial inner layer, myocardium muscle middle layer, epicardium outer layer. Right ventricle to lungs pulmonary arteries. Vena cava no valve so can enter into right atrium freely. Aorta from left ventricle to systemic arteries. Ascending arteries go to head and arms. Descending aorta goes to trunk, digestive tract, liver, kidneys, and pelvis and legs. Coronary arteries gets circulation after valves close to make it a low-p(cid:396)essu(cid:396)e s(cid:455)ste(cid:373) (do(cid:374)"t want much pressure like lungs: blood in chambers does not supply heart with nutrients, lots of anastomosis. Imaging test: put dye into artery and then scan heart, check for hypoxic parts of heart or necrotic parts, creatine kinase sign of heart attack because heart attack causes hypoxia which breaks down cells.
