Guidelines for mathematical operations and basic mathematics review ( page 677-698) All values that are multiplied together or squared are considered to be parts of one expression. Sigma x^2 square value of x then add them all up (sigma x)^2 add everyone x then squre the sum of the x scores. Once you add parantheses, do whats inside the parenthesis first, then do what is outside the parenthesis. When the expression following a summation sign involves parantheses and multiplication/squaring, first complete the calculations within the parentheses, then perform the multiplication or squaring and then sum. Without parentheses, the mathematical expression following a summation sign ends at a plus or minus sign (+ or -) Add up everyones x score then substract 2^2 from it (3+1+7+4) 2^2 = 15 -4 = 11. Data set: 1,4,3 [(sugnax)^2 sigma x^2]^2 + sigmax 1 (38)^2 = 1444. Step 1: conduct calculations inside the square/outer brackets.
