PHYSL212 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Ovarian Follicle, Mammary Gland, Male Reproductive System
Document Summary
As with all topics it is recommended that you supplement your lecture notes by reading the relevant chapter(s) in the textbook. What is the name given to the male gonads, where are they located? (and why?) What are the general properties of androgens? (eg. how and where are they synthesized, how are they secreted, transported, metabolized, how do they act, how is their secretion regulated?) Why are these hormones important? (ie. what role do they play in the fetus, at the time of puberty and in the adult?) Review the journey of the sperm and the egg from their site of production to the site of fertilization. Optional readings for the topic of reproductive physiology. More detailed descriptions, including some clinical aspects http://library. med. utah. edu/kw/human_reprod/lectures/ Probably more than you need/want now, but may be useful if you go on to take higher level courses in endocrinology and reproduction http://www. accessmedicine. com/resourcetoc. aspx?resourceid=680 (chapters 12-16).
