Closely related to war, often when it becomes extremist and violent towards other peoples: eg. Racism foundation of nazi germany and formerly yugoslavia. Economic nationalism seeks to strengthen the state through economic means: often equated with protectionism and state subsidization of industries. Emerged with the suffragette movement: granting of the right to vote or universal suffrage, gained new prominence with the sexual revolution in liberal democratic states, moves beyond mere representation in official parties. Equal rights for women: revolutionary when it first proposed, many social contract theorists excluded women from their writing. Many schools of thought : 3 waves of feminism. 3rd wave: embracing critiques of women of color: liberal feminists, radial feminists, indigenous feminists, post-colonial feminists, socialist feminists. Two main ideas: justice: equal treatment and pay, for example, gender roles: roles in society, how women are thought of. Gender and sex are different (social vs. biological) Encourages protection of earth"s resources and less damaging lifestyles.
