Richard lazarus - 4 aspects of the appraisal process are of particular signi cance: Primary appraisal: appraisal of the demands of the situation (good or bad, safe or dangerous, important or not) Secondary appraisal: appraisal of the resources available to cope with it, determining level of available knowledge, skills, tools, and supports. Judgments of what the consequences of the situation could be, good or bad, including the severity and likelihood of occurrence. Appraisal of the personal meaning, that is, what the outcome might imply about us and how this impacts our self worth and other opinions of ourselves. Distortions and mistaken appraisals can occur at any of the four points in the appraisal process, causing inappropriate stress responses. Gas (general adaption syndrome) : the body"s responses to a stressor, which includes successive phases of alarm reaction, resistance, and exhaustion. Three phases of gas : alarm reaction - ght or ight.
