Layer iv packed with stellate cells seems to do a lot of the receiving of information. Layer v primarily pyramidal cells tend to send many of the signals. Going to be thicker because there are many cells that help to send information out. Thickness of layers different for different regions in the brain. The cortex consists of six layers of cells. Pyramidal cells can have dendritic extensions that extend out of the layers play a role in integrating information and relaying between the layers. Summary of major brain structures in slides chapter 3 last slide also. Inside of neuron is negative with respect to outside. Even distribution factors contributing to even distribution of ions. Uneven distribution factors contributing to uneven distribution of ions. Selective permeability to certain ions (na +, a-) a- is a negatively charged protein but is too large to freely cross ion membranes.
