Description
Guest Lecture February 12, 2014 ERP’s are a subset of EEG, they are deflections from EEG’s that are event related. The good thing about EEG and ERP’s is that you can record them in virtually real time. With EEG we can tell exactly when things are happening and with MRI we can tell exactly where they happen within the brain. The frequency of EEG is very meaningful. Methods of visualizing the living human brain -Contrast X-rays -inject substance that absorbs x-rays less or more than surrounding tissue -Ex. Cerebral angiography -X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) -Computer assisted X-ray procedure -provides a 3D representation of the brain -Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) -High resolution images -Constructed from measurement of waves that H atoms emit when activated within a magnetic field -Positron Emission Tomography (PET) -Brain activity -Scan is an image of levels of radioactivity in various parts of one horizontal level of brain
