Spinal cord is there to attach itself to the brain. You can still be conscious, even while you are day-dreaming or sleeping. Xed action pattern - stimulus. eg. when dogs get wet, they instantly shake to dry. Depending on heredity, each organism has a relatively xed behaviour. Being hungry is an innate behaviour, hunting food is also innate, but eating it is not innate. Our spinal cord is built for us to walk in balance. A complex nervous system allows a greater range of behaviours, especially learnt behaviours. Psyche was an immaterial idea that controlled the behaviour. It was also responsible for higher order processes such as desire, pleasure, pain, etc. Mind was another term for memory back in the days. (anglo-saxon, learn de nition) A person"s mind or psyche is responsible for behaviours. Any behaviours can be shared between humans and animals=descarte. Descarte = dualism. some kind of materials, physiological ability to control behaviour.
