PSYCO377 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Neurosurgery, Myelin, Lesion
Document Summary
Ch 26 traumatic and mild brain injuries: 731 - 741 & p. 743 - 745. Gun shot wounds which confines damage to the path of bullet. Stroke - specific brain regions are deprived of oxygen. Lesion method inferences about normal brain function. Closed head injury (falls, car accidents, sport injuries) Brain movement in the skull due to sudden stop without declaration. Dementing disorders causing pathological changes in the brain. Demyelinating diseases which cause damage to the myelin sheath surrounding neurons. Not a lot of insights into normal function hard to see pre-post functioning, no before injury data to go off of, hard to make comparisons. Generalized brain disorders affect more than one cognitive system at a time & their effects are not identical. Ex memory, attention, perception, see more than one influenced at once. Thus emphasis is on making subtle, but important observations in their neuropsychological manifestations.
