(eg: slicing skin into sending pain receptor signals). eg: detecting light , rods and cones. Sensory adaptation: reduced sensitivity to stimulation resulting from prolonged exposure to a stimulus. Senses adapt to a stimulus (eg heat, pain, salty ) Perception: recognize something out there. organize, identify & interpret a sensation. slower than sensation. Background activity in nervous system (neurons constantly ring) white noise.
