Document Summary

The cornea does most of the focusing in they eye. Accommodation is the process of the lens changing its shape to allow for objects at different distances to be focused on the retina. The shape of the lens is changed through the ciliary muscles tightening or relaxing. Our lens has physical limits on the amount it can be bent. Thus, there are distances above and below which we cannot focus on. Our lens and ciliary muscles may lose the ability to accommodate. As we get older, the near point and far point may decrease etc) The changes to near point tends to change systematically as people age. Young people, thus can watch the tv from much closer. Although, this and other activities (tv/reading in the dark, really might have long term consequences. Reading/presbyoptic glasses add an extra lens that aids focusing. Is the inability to see distant objects clearly.
