Recognition of the self, and the distinction from the surrounding. Most animals behave as if they cannot recognize their own reflection. Evidence, they do not recognize, even if they ignore. Our capacity for self-awareness is a rare ability. Even amongst humans at early stages of development, we behave a lot like those cats. One of the dominant treatment for ailments, particularly of the mind, was this practise. Because, apparently, a lot of these ailments were because of an imbalance of forces within our bodies and they carried with them magnetic charges. It was an idea with no bearing on reality. People who were mesmerised went into this trance like state. People tend to relax and are more open to suggestions a lack of control over one"s actions. Social expectation theory: the acquisition on roles. The presence of authority figures have a lot of influence of how we behave.
