Rarely acknowledged problem: genetically verbal mother and verbal babies. - studies o adopted children: children language acquisition is related to their bioloal parents speech patterns but also their adoptive mothers. Studied with parent training: 3 months to 15 months. Tended to have children with bigger vocab than parents how didnt. Motherese in not all cultures but babies learn language anyways. Still develop language at the same rate. Kalikuli think its absurd to talk to infants that they don"t reply. But they stay with mother all the time. Hear language of mother and other people. Despite this children in that culture develop language at the same rate. They may both have language rich enbironemnet but language directed to di erent people. Critical period is not as important for 2nd language as it is for the rst. The more similar 2nd is to rst the easier it is than if it is more di erent. Simultaneous learn both at the same time.
