The previous perspective: not so good to explain where they originate from. Two key ideas: people are often unconscious of their motives and defence mechanism help to keep anxiety provoking thoughts and impulses out of the conscious mind. Freud believed that most of our mind is not available to consciousness. Any a little part f it able water. There is a preconscious level in between the two: involve things that are nit immediately conscious but could be with a little e ort ex: where your car is parked. Id: most primitive part of mind and sent at birth. Wants all the time without any thoughts to limits or priorities etc. Ego develops between 6 weeks and 2 months: partly conscious and partly unconscious. Whats actually possible and hwats actually apron rate. Superego: develops at age 4: idealistic and perfection principal. Always operating within moral bounds and what society dictates and always following instructions.
